HELLO MAVENS !!! x
Happy Monday ladies
We seem so keen nowadays to use labels and I am often labelled as an 'entrepreneur' and to be really honest with you all this is not a word I use to describe myself. I am a Mum that has worked around her kids, making money along the way! When I think of the word entrepreneur I think of someone striving to make lots of money. This was not how my journey started for me. I think of a hard business person who sees money making opportunities and grabs them anywhere they can. (Not that there is anything wrong with that).
I have been self employed since I was 23. I became self employed so I could work around my children. I wanted to open a Nursery school that was good quality as this was near impossible to find in our area. I wanted the best education for my boys.
My second business was about making myself happy again. After losing my Mum I needed to find joy in my work again. This is exactly what I did. I created a job that I loved and it was a huge distraction from how sad I felt at the time.
As a Mum I wanted to fit work around my boys when they were little. When I have been invited as a guest speaker at various things over the years I used to find myself going against the tide. All these amazing business women would stand up and say how hard it all is and how much they have missed out on their children's lives. Then I would stand up and feel slightly inadequate to admit that I was the total opposite of that. I have always worked the opposite way to that. I made my work fit around my boys.
Obviously things have changed as they got older and my job is now my 'baby' and YES I want to make as much money as I can.
As Mother's Day approaches I want to just say to you all, there is no right or wrong way of doing this. I would like you to just remember what your goals are and don't apologise for them like I often did in the past. I think we put so much pressure on ourselves.
